Real Leaders. Real Results.

"I show up differently — in how I lead, how I communicate, and how I support others."

BEFORE: I struggled with a lack of confidence that dictated how I showed up in the world. I avoided difficult conversations, and conflicts no matter how trivial. That led me to be overly agreeable because I didn't feel sure enough in my own shoes to disagree.

I found myself laughing at inappropriate comments just to diffuse the tension, afraid that being 'unpleasant' and 'disagreeable' would make me unlikable. I said 'yes' to everyone, even when every part of me wanted to say 'no.'

Looking back, I realize I didn't even know who I was—I was so concerned with 'being' the version of myself I thought everyone else wanted to see.

AFTER: I’ve taken all of my leadership training with Debbie along with 1:1 coaching, and I honestly don’t know where I’d be without her. Because of Debbie, I show up differently — in how I lead, how I communicate, and how I support others. I lead a small team and work closely with businesses and entrepreneurs. Debbie’s teachings show up in my everyday work — in how I have clearer, kinder conversations, how I handle difficult moments, and how I support people through change. One lesson I use constantly is “clear is kind, and unclear is unkind,” which has completely shifted how I communicate and set expectations.

Working with entrepreneurs who are often facing challenges and need a safe place of support, Debbie showed me how to truly hold space for others with grace. Because of her, I’m able to allow room for emotions and reactions — without taking them on or reacting myself. I’ve learned to pause, listen, and respond thoughtfully.

Debbie also taught me to recognize the stories I tell myself and to question them. This has helped me become more grounded, confident, and intentional — especially in leadership moments that feel uncomfortable or challenging. I can choose to act instead of react, by recognizing the emotions bubbling up inside, name them, see them and settle them.

I often ask myself, “What would Debbie say?” in difficult moments because working on yourself is never done, and looking inward isn’t always easy, but it is always worth it. Twenty years ago, I never would have imagined myself in the role I have today. But because of Debbie, I showed up everyday - to do better, to be better, than the day before. I truly love what I do, and I’m proud of the leader I am. Debbie leads with compassion and curiosity, teaches with incredible integrity, and is one of the most giving and thoughtful people I’ve ever known. I’m deeply grateful for everything she has taught me.

"I immediately started implementing what I had learned on a daily basis into my role. It significantly impacted how I show up as a leader and how I address concerns."

BEFORE: When I began the role of Human Resource Coordinator at Masstown Market in 2022, I had minimal knowledge on being an HR professional.

— Amber O’Donnell
Human Resource Coordinator
Masstown Market

AFTER: The strategic application of the training I took has fundamentally altered the trajectory of Masstown Market. Through the guidance of Debbie, the organization has successfully integrated professionalized human resource management into its core business model. The knowledge and skills that I have personally gained is immeasurable. After my training, I immediately started implementing what I had learned on a daily basis into my role.

It significantly impacted how I show up as a leader and how I address concerns. My team feels confident to share personal dilemmas with me and trust that I will properly follow through on addressing them. Masstown Market's team and our business reputation has thrived with the implementations of a kind and professional approach in all situations. The impact of this transformation is multifaceted: it has empowered individual leaders with the confidence and tools to manage effectively, fostered team cohesion through direct communication and inclusive practices, and secured the business's future by reducing turnover and driving operational growth.

"I am more confident in having difficult conversations and use a better structure to keep them productive and respectful. "

BEFORE: As a leader, I tended to be more reactive than proactive. I avoided difficult conversations because I didn’t have the structure or confidence to handle them in a productive way. I also believed I was a strong communicator, but I struggled with speeches and public speaking, which showed me there were gaps in my skills. Before I worked with Debbie, I often focused on getting tasks done, but I didn’t take a structured or long-term approach to leading others. Overall, I wanted to grow as a leader, but I didn’t have the tools or self-awareness needed to lead effectively and communicate with confidence.

— Pamela Kennedy
Real Estate Specialist
Halifax Regional Municipality – Corporate Real Estate

AFTER: I have a much clearer and more structured approach to leadership. I now take time to plan ahead and think more intentionally about how I lead my team and manage my responsibilities. I am more confident in having difficult conversations and use a better structure to keep them productive and respectful. This has improved communication within my team and helped build more trust and accountability. I have also become more comfortable with public speaking and continue to work on it with more confidence and awareness. Overall, I am leading with more purpose and consistency, which has helped create better results in my work. Debbie changes lives.

"I developed a stronger understanding of how effective leadership and people management directly influence team performance and workplace culture."

BEFORE: I was a new HR professional providing support to a large organization with multiple locations throughout the province. I would listen to respond and wanted to be able to effectively coach team members.

— Angela Jensen
HR Manager
The Native Council of Nova Scotia

AFTER: I developed a stronger understanding of how effective leadership and people management directly influence team performance and workplace culture. I learned the importance of consistent HR practices such as documentation and proactive conflict management. I’ve focused on active listening, asking clarifying questions, and creating space for team members to share their ideas and concerns. I am listening to hear and not to just respond. I'm now coaching team members to develop their skills and confidence. I now use more open-ended questions, regular check-ins, and constructive feedback to help individuals identify solutions and take ownership of their development. Overall, these learnings have made me a more thoughtful and supportive leader. The impact has been stronger relationships with my team, clearer communication, and a more positive and accountable work environment, which ultimately benefits the organization as well.

BEFORE: I was moving into the next stage of my career, seeking to be a 'titled' manager, while still working in a role that supervised and coordinated with others.

— Andrea Trask

"This experience has made me a stronger leader, and it has strengthened our team in ways that will drive us forward for years to come."

BEFORE: I would "travel around the monoploy board" (have the same conversations) many times and forget to take a different path.

— Rhonda Fleet
Rooms Division Manager
ALT Hotel Halifax

AFTER: I’ve learned the true power of clear communication and authentic leadership. I’ve discovered that being direct isn’t about being harsh—it’s about giving people the clarity they deserve so they can succeed.

I’ve also realized that effective leadership isn’t one size fits all. Every individual brings unique strengths and needs, and adapting my approach has transformed the way our team works together.

With the right tools, guidance, and a renewed understanding of how to support each person, I’m confident that our business is positioned to excel. This experience has made me a stronger leader, and it has strengthened our team in ways that will drive us forward for years to come.

"I feel more confident in my role as a new leader "

BEFORE: I didn't know that I didn't know how to be a leader. I thought that being good at your job directly translated into being a good leader but people are so much more complex than expected. I was always rushing into situations as well thinking that I knew best and this was the way that a certain job has to be done.

— Nicole Nickerson
Pharmacy Clinic Lead / Pharmacist
Chisholm's Pharmachoice

AFTER: I have learned to take a beat and make sure I have a strategy in place. I've also learned how to open up the conversation to include the staff and think about what communication style works best for each individual. In a positive way I was able to turn my egocentric way of thinking into a leadership way of thinking and this has helped in relationships I have made with my staff and in my effectiveness in running the pharmacy and clinic. Debbie has been an exceptional mentor. As a new leader, her availability, practical guidance, and encouragement—through successes and challenges—have been invaluable. I feel more confident in my role of a new leader because of the skills and lessons I have had the privilege of learning. She is truly one of a kind.

— Vonda Hazzard
